When portfolio reviews happen, The Gallery 145 happens.
The Gallery 145 was the organic organizing of one epic print swap that took place at the conclusion of a weekend of Fine Art Photography portfolio reviews at Review Santa Fe in 2015. Early in the weekend the print swap began as an idea of exchanging work between a small group of participating artists in room 145 that would take place on the final evening of reviews. Word of the event excitedly spread quickly and by the end of the evening pieces were being exchanged by dozens of photographers from all over the world. The swap resulted in prints finding their way into loving homes and in view of new audiences across the globe. The Gallery 145 wishes to continue this idea of sharing work and ideas of alternative distribution by hosting future print swap events at upcoming photographic gatherings. Just come find us in room 145.
Bringing Artists Together
Portfolio Reviews are incredibly helpful in facilitating the introduction of artists to industry leaders however some of the most meaningful and lasting relationships come from the artist to artist connections. The Gallery 145 creates an opportunity for artists to connect with the makers of the work they love most.
Finding New Audiences
The response from a portfolio reviewer can be hit or miss. Some offer insight while others offer new audiences but neither are guaranteed. The Gallery 145 print swap allows for work to leave the portfolio review and live on the walls of people who will share their newly acquired photographs to individuals who otherwise may have never seen them.
Artists As Collectors
Giving work away can be difficult unless the work is being exchanged for something that the artist loves. The idea of collecting work and living with art you want sets a precedent within your own community that acquiring work is as important as creating it. As artists we must set the example that the objects being created by your peers are both valuable and desired.
